NHS Patient Referral

Pink Hair Solutions have been working in association with the NHS for the last 10 years as a part of their tender for wig suppliers. This means we awarded all 7 lots under the most recent NHS tender, so are recognized as a supplier and fitter for wigs and top-pieces, as well as our other products and services, such as headwear, concealment sprays, repair work, hair venting and so forth. As an NHS supplier, we are members of the HBSA, the governing body for guidance and compliance for hairdressing and beauty companies underneath the NHS tender.

If you have been referred to us via the NHS, you may be entitled to financial support towards the cost of your wig/top-piece. All NHS trusts are different, so the amount you are eligible for differs depending on the hospital you are undergoing treatment with.

Usually (but not limited to) the departments providing referrals are:

  • Oncology
  • Dermatology
  • Urology

It is your dermatologist, breast care nurse, surgical consultant etc. that will issue the referral internally to Orthotics – but they will speak with you about your options in advance.

Orthotics dispense what is commonly known as the ‘voucher’, sometimes they may send this out in the post to you, or ask you to collect this from them. The hospital will provide the ‘voucher’, typically an A4 (or smaller) sheet of paper with your information on (this could be: your name, address, date of birth, or simply a patient number and the voucher amount) – please bring this to your initial consultation. If you would like to book in for your FREE consultation, but have not yet received your voucher, please contact the Orthotics department at the hospital you are under.

The voucher you have been given will determine your entitlement, your hair loss consultant will explain this in detail during your visit to us, and go through all options available to you.

If you aren’t quite ready to say yes to a wig/top-piece, or if your treatment is delayed, your voucher is valid from 12 months of the approval date. However, if you are undergoing treatment (chemotherapy/radiotherapy), we do advise for your first visit to us to be a week or so before your first treatment. This is so we can get the best idea of what your needs are, particularly so if you would like a wig similar to replicate your existing hair, and that you have a wig ready and waiting for you, for when the time comes around that you need it.

As for patient referrals through dermatology, the validity of the voucher is still 12 months, and you can arrange the appointment around any dermatological treatments you are undergoing at a time that suits you.
